Treatment with a Chiropractor – Accident Injury Claims

Pain Relief from Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractors diagnose, treat and rehabilitate injuries of the musculoskeletal and nervous system. Chiropractors use various techniques to heal whiplash, sprain and strain like injuries without the need for medication. Reliable and trusted chiropractors should know when injuries are more severe and able to refer those patients to appropriate specialists.

Types of Chiropractic Treatment

Various techniques are used by chiropractors to treat injuries stemming from a car, truck or other type of accident. Common procedures include:

Hot & Cold Packs – treatment with heat and cold packs on the affected area of the body.

Electric Stimulation – current is passed through the muscles. Helps by contracting the affected muscles.

Chiropractic Adjustment – manipulation to the spine to correct the alignment, motion and function of the vertebra.

Ultrasound Therapy – sound waves to treat the deeper lying tissues to reduce the overall scar tissue.

Length of Chiropractic Treatment

The length of chiropractic treatment will vary from person to person. Most times, a patient will be placed a conservative treatment plan, consisting of treatment 3-4 times per week, for a period of 12 weeks. During the treatment phase, a patient should be re-examined frequently to determine that treatment is beneficial, or that other testing is required, such as MRIs, EKGs or nerve studies. Once the treatment phase is complete, a chiropractic will know if a person needs to be referred to a specialist or that they have reached maximum medical improvement and can be discharged.

Chiropractor & Treatment Not Helping

Injured persons should trust and rely on their chiropractors advice. Injuries take time to heal and it is unrealistic to be healed immediately. You and your chiropractor should have open lines of communication, and he or she should be able to explain how your body is reacting to the treatment. If treatment is not helping, then ask your chiropractor for other treatment options. This may include referral to a specialist. Trusted and reliable chiropractors know that their treatment will not work on every patient. That some patients need more aggressive forms of treatment such as trigger point and epidural injections. Trusted and reliable chiropractors should treat according to the best interests of their patient.
