Technology now allows us to access a wealth of knowledge without leaving our home. One area that technology has helped is the ease now in obtaining police reports. Previously, police reports could only be accessed by visiting the police department that investigated the accident. This would mean driving to Henry, Barrow or Bibb County for a 4 page report. All that is needed now, is a computer, the name of the police department, the date of the accident, the name of the client, and a credit card.
One company that my firm routinely uses is Buycrash. They charge $11 to obtain a single report which you can download immediately. Another benefit of Buycrash is that you can obtain reports about other accidents involving that same person. This information may be useful to show that the driver that caused the accident had a poor driving history. In one particular case, my firm was able to locate another police report in which the person that hit my client caused another accident two days prior. In that accident he fled the scene just like the accident involving my client. This key piece of evidence will drive the value of my client’s claim to ensure we get fair compensation.
Other Investigation Tips
There are also many other useful sites that allow an attorney to investigate an accident including gathering background information about the persons involved. Companies exist which do background searches for nominal fees and can provide a wealth of information such as cars they have purchased, real estate they own, their criminal history, etc. At the end of the day injury cases are not only about you and your injuries but also about the person that caused your injuries. Knowing about the other person is just as important as knowing about you, and is a factor that can be used to ensure that you obtain fair compensation.
